EXPEDITION TEAM
Walk the Congo combines the dogged drive of explorers Amelia Earhart and Ernest Shackleton with the committed activism of Gloria Steinem and Rosa Parks. Principled yet pragmatic, this team fights to win.
To complete an extraordinary mission, you need an extraordinary team. Walk the Congo has just that. The expedition is led by Toby Storie-Pugh, a fiercely determined British explorer who combines his love of adventure with his desire to make a positive impact in the world. Toby will be joined by Aline Namwezi, a courageous Congolese journalist deeply committed to exposing human rights abuses in Congo’s war-torn eastern provinces while celebrating Congo’s incredible women; Simone Bazos, an American journalist dedicated to amplifying the voices of the oppressed and forgotten; and Boston Ndoole, a Congolese adventurer working to protect the region’s incredible biodiversity from poachers and other threats.
With no roads to connect the east to the west, Congo will present Toby, Aline, Simone, and Boston with one of the most logistically difficult expeditions ever attempted. Add to this the ongoing conflict in the east, where fighting has left 5.4 million people dead since 1998, the ever-present threats posed by endemic tropical illnesses, the scores of dangerous animals that live within Congo’s jungles, and the lack of access to quality medical care nationwide, and the risks facing the Walk the Congo team become starkly apparent.
